Valentines Day - Pom Pom heart tutorial
I don't really need much of an excuse to sit and make another pom pom, but valentines day is certainly a good one! Here is a quick tutorial on how to use a pom pom maker to make a nice big fluffy heart ;)
You will need a pom pom maker, some scissors, and any wool you fancy
Hold the two halves of the pom pom maker together so that the little bubbles slot into the holes
Wrap your continuously around one half of the pom pom maker nice and evenly, until the gap in the bottom is almost closed. Snip your wool and tuck the tail of the wool underneath another wrap of wool to keep it secure.
When you have wrapped both halves of the pom pom maker, carefully snip all the way up either edge as pictured.
Cut another length of wool and slot it into the gap between the two halves of the pom pom maker. Tie in the middle and tie again to secure. You can now remove the pom pom maker and your pom pom should hold together nicely.
Start trimming your pom pom into nice even ball. Don't be shy about chopping into your pom pom as it can become a lot smaller than it started out! However be careful not to cut too close to the wool that is tied around the middle as this is holding the whole ball together.
Once you have a fairly even ball, you can shape into a heart. Shape the top of the heart by cutting a V shape with your scissors at a steep diagonal in the centre of the ball and shaping outwards.
Shape the bottom shaving the bottom centre of the ball into a rounded point. There is no exact science to this, just be brave and keep trimming until you are happy! Its that simple :)
Lovely :) x
